Floral Vortex Five is the artist's favorite piece of the series because of the balance of the central mushroom and its intertwining stalks. The vortex creates a sense of separation from the tight cluster of foliage with a spacious focus on the central flower. The prairie smoke flowers coming from the center cluster provide a feeling of whimsical movement. Branching further out throughout the work are penstemon, elephant’s head, and alpine laurel flowers. Dispersed throughout the edges of the piece are yellow lady’s slippers.
